The Bump. The Belly. Your Maternity Session.
Should I take maternity photos?
This always seems to be the question that people teeter on. Sometimes a family knows without a doubt they want maternity photos and often its something they decide last minute.
Whichever category you fall into, I’m here for it.
I think about the maybe 2 photos I have of my mom pregnant and how I see families give birth all the time and still its so mind boggling to think that I was the little being making that bump stick out.
I always urge families to include a maternity session when they’re looking for newborn photos and I offer it complimentary as part of my birth stories because it IS a big deal and its not a step to skip over.
The great thing about maternity photos is you can do them in the comfrot of your own home, you can do something romantic at the San Antonio Missions or do a low key coffee day on the San Antonio Riverwalk .

What would a maternity session look like as a family?
Maternity sessions with families look just like…family sessions! I get asked a lot if children and partners are allowed at maternity sessions and my expectation is always that this is a family affair. Of course if you want something intimate and smaller, we can always do that. Just like with a family session though, we frolic and play and usually the tiny humans in the party set the pace. The bonus is having that extra time set aside to make sure we capture JUST you and that magical moment in creating life. Its pretty rad.
What would a maternity session look like as a couple?
How about playing around at one of your favorite spots? Think of it like a date night but cooler. You get to bring along a photographer (I volunteer as tribute) and spend some time together before you family expands. Like all my sessions, I help with wardrobe and provide prompts and guidance during the session so that everyone feels relaxed and comfortable. My goal is always to make this not a chore but a fun experience you can look back on. The amount of time’s I’ve gotten ‘Well that was actually kind of fun’ from expecting Dad’s has reinforced that this experience doesn’t have to be like pulling teeth.
