Hurts Donut Mom and Me Photoshoot

Motherhood photos but make them fun, unique and authentic to YOU

Think of this like a date with your kid, making memories together but bringing along a photographer to document it all

We do these things everything and pay no mind to it. The trenches of motherhood, the everyday, the things we do to survive and the things we do to create memories for them…all of this sounds like SUCH a good excuse to be present in these moments AND have the memories to look back on! I’m of the belief that everyday is a good day to celebrate you and your babies but with Mother’s Day approaching its an extra special time to allow yourself a moment document it.

Making photos from your special motherhood moments

I had it in my head that I wanted to do a donut session with a family from the moment I walked in to this donut shop. Its. A. Vibe. And the donuts are truly art and HUGE. When this mom asked me if I had any dream spots and I tossed out the name of this shop she was all in and the story was everything I was hoping for.

What do you do in the middle of the night when baby won’t sleep?

When her husband was deployed and she clung to sanity in such a fabulous way…

She did what all brilliant Mom’s do, a special talent I swear you hone especially as a military spouse… she got creative and realized that the local donut shop was Open 24 hours. Hurts Donuts, the midnight Hero.

Midnight trips to not only soothe but to remain sane

I joked with her that parts of my youngest newborn phase for me are colored with brioche and capuccino during our time in Italy. We all have our comfort food, our comfort places, the routines we make so that we can make it through. I LOVED being able to celebrate these moments for this duo as this little guy knocked on celebrating 18 months of this gig.

Photograph your real life not just for you but also for them

As a military mom I also love these moments because let’s be real…this guy won’t remember any of this. These are formative moments in this motherhood journey that for now he have a connection to but years from now they’ll be driving down roads in a foreign country talking about what he was like a child and Mom will say ‘Man, I remember when you were little and I was alone and there were nights that were so hard and we used to sneak off into the car when the city lights were on and the night was quiet and we’d grab donuts’ And he’s gonna probably have a look of shock because as a 4 or 5 year old midnight trips to get donuts probably seems like some crazy fantasy.

And then she’ll be able to bring up the photos to show what it was like. So they both can look back and the time they made it through the hard times. Together. Especially in this military life our family truly takes pause at the sweet moments because we know how quickly our lives can change. How much struggle we have in saying goodbye and starting fresh and the uncertainty that comes with loving someone who puts on a uniform everyday.

Let’s be real, family photos with a toddler can be hard because they always want to move

So let’s do something fun that you both enjoy. Instead of making them dress up and pose in a strange place, let’s go somewhere they now and do something familiar.

How to get photos with your kids?

This is it, truly. I meet SO many families full of moms, dads, kids who don’t like being in front of the camera. And I get it…I’m not a huge fan either. But what I do love is seeing myself with my family. Loving them and being loved by them. And doing an outing together and documenting your real life is such a great way to capture your moments in a casual and comfortable way for everyone.

Special thanks to Hurts Donuts and honestly all donut and coffee shops that fuel motherhood

Sometimes that little treat is just what we need to make it until nap time
